3 reasons why your business needs to start video marketing now
When I started my career back in the nineties, not every business had a website. Now, it seems weird when you run across a company that doesn’t have one. When social media came on the scene, I specifically remember my boss saying there was no way in hell our company would ever be on it, and that companies who were putting up Facebook pages were making a huge mistake.
Now even the most boring b2b brands are on social, and 58% of consumers visit a brand’s social media pages before even visiting their site. Video marketing is trending this way as well, especially for experienced service professionals who are building a personal brand.
Here are three reasons why:
Your customers are looking for it
There’s tons of data that supports how effective video is like
1 in 4 consumers made a purchase after seeing a story on Instagram
But look at your own habits:
Do you lose time on Instagram stories or reels?
Have you ever wasted an hour on Tiktok?
Do you search YouTube whenever you want to figure out how to make ice cream or get more eyes on your LinkedIn content or see if that grill you want to buy is any good.
**Bonus points if you’ve gotten sucked into watching that Lume butt deodorant ad from start to finish**
If we’re on the internet, chances are very high that we’re looking at video content.
If your business is not doing video, you’re missing a big chance to get in front of potential customers.
2. Your competitors are doing it (or they will be soon)
More and more businesses are using video as part of their marketing strategy.
70% of businesses say they’re creating more videos now compared to the same time last year.
96% of marketers have placed ad spend on video.
86% of businesses now use video as a marketing tool.
Chances are, your competitors are in that group of businesses. They are making deep connections with your prospects and positioning themselves as the experts who can solve your prospects’ problems.
In other words, video content is becoming table stakes, so if you’re not doing it you're falling behind.
3. It’s one of the easiest ways to get your business seen by more people on social
The other day I heard a colleague (who totally kicks ass on LinkedIn) complain about how LinkedIn has been ignoring her. She’s a LinkedIn expert, so she’s been doing all the right things: posting thought-provoking text posts, leaving comments, and having meaningful conversations in direct messages. But she's annoyed because her engagement is down.
Why? It seems that the algorithm is (in her words) “loving on video.” Put another way that isn’t laced with social media marketing jargon: She stopped reaching as many people on LinkedIn because she wasn’t posting video content.
It’s not limited to LinkedIn of course. Facebook and Instagram favor video content as well. Pinterest has video pins. Tiktok has always been all video.
Why should you care what the algorithm likes? If you’re already taking the time to market your business on social media, or even if you’re trying to figure out how to get started, let’s do it in a way that will maximize your results and give you the highest return on the time you’ve invested.
Video does that for you.
